APM publishes new RPP standard

11 Jan 2017

APM has published the newly-refreshed APM Registered Project Professional (RPP) standard. The standard provides a developmental route for holders of APM Project Professional Qualification (PPQ) and APM Practitioner Qualification (PQ), and secondly an experimental route for those with at least seven years’ relevant experience.

"Following its announcement at the beginning of June, APM has published the newly-refreshed APM Registered Project Professional (RPP) standard, which will be available from February 2017. The RPP has been refreshed so that it aligns to the APM Competence Framework 2nd edition which includes the competences necessary for effective project, programme or portfolio management.

There is a growing recognition of the value that competent and capable project professionals can offer to all areas of society.

RPP was originally launched in 2011 and since then those who have been awarded the standard have continued to prove their competence, dedication to continuing development and their ability to deliver competitive advantage through improved project delivery, providing stakeholders and employers with the confidence they need when delivering change.

In addition to its alignment to the new APM Competence Framework 2nd edition, the standard will recognise the diverse paths taken into the profession by providing routes for holders of APM Project Professional Qualification (PPQ) and APM Practitioner Qualification (PQ), and is also open to those with at least seven years’ relevant experience.

In line with similar standards in other professions, the experiential and qualified routes will provide the opportunity to achieve RPP in the first decade of an individual’s project career.

The refreshed standard is the result of a robust development process involving corporate members, training providers, RPP holders and new project professionals. By undertaking thorough market testing, APM is confident the RPP standard meets the demands of industry and encapsulates the key competences required by the profession.

“The standard will continue to meet the original principles of RPP,” said Gill Hancock, APM Head of Professional Standards and Knowledge. “It has been benchmarked against similar standards in other professions while recognising the attributes that make project management a unique profession.”

Applicants who are in the process of applying for RPP using the existing criteria should continue to do so. Those looking to be assessed against the current standard must submit their portfolio by 31st March 2017 and sit their professional review before 28th July 2017."
