Introduction to Project Management - 1 day
Overview
This in-house one-day course is designed for support staff, project team members or potential project managers. It is compatible with the PRINCE2 methodology.
Emphasis will be given to those aspects of project management not included in the PRINCE2 methodology - people management techniques, planning techniques such as Gantt charts or critical path analysis, budgetary control, quality management and assurance mechanisms.
Relevant lecture notes, case study material and exercises will be provided.
Participants will be encouraged to take an active part in all topics - each session will contain discussions and collaborative work in small groups.
Session 1 - Understanding the Project Context
Project features, constraints, definitions, processes, roles, Project environment and stake-holder analysis, Project success and benefits management - success criteria, key performance indicators, Business case
Session 2 - Starting and Initiating the project
Starting up a project - project brief, The Project Initiation Document, Scope Management - The Breakdown Structures for Product, Work, Cost and Organisation, Quality management, Estimating
Session 3 - Planning the Project
Scheduling - network analysis, Gantt charts, critical path analysis, Resource management, Risk management, Issue management and change control
Session 4 - Executing the Plan
Communication, Characteristics of a good Project Manager, Motivation and Leadership, Teamwork
