Finance and Accounting for Project Managers - 1 day
Overview
This in-house course takes delegates through the various aspects of finance and accounting met during the different stages of the project life cycle.
It is designed for project managers or for support staff who have at least an initial understanding of project management to the level of the APM Introductory Certificate. Thus they will understand the language of project management and the structure of a successful project.
Delegates will be equipped with the knowledge, skills and expertise for the successful financial management of their projects. They should also understand the accountants’ perspective and thus the importance of providing useful and relevant data for senior management.
What is covered?
Fundamental accounting principles; the current financial reporting standards (for both small firms and those with shares quoted on the AIM or main market); the three main financial statements - Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow Statement.
Assessing company performance through analysis of the financial statements.
Project appraisal techniques and the preparation and understanding of the business case.
Management accounting - budgetary planning and control, variances to include earned value analysis.
How will the course be taught?
Delegates will attend four sessions in the day. During each session there will be a seminar in which the concepts taught in the lecture are put into practice via exercises done in small groups.
